5 Eat low-fat dairy - Men who ate the most low-fat milk (defined as frequent intake of low fat yogurt and skim milk) had a 42 percent lower rate of developing gout than men who consumed the least amount of low-fat dairy products.

6 Consume foods high in vitamin C - The results show that men who consumed 1500 mg or more vitamin C had a 45 percent lower risk of developing gout in relation to the participants who took less than 250 milligrams of vitamin C daily. Top foods for vitamin C are: papaya, peppers (yellow, red and green), broccoli, Brussel sprouts, strawberries, oranges, melons, kiwifruit, cabbage, cauliflower (cooked), cabbage (cooked), grapefruit, tomatoes and raspberries.

7 Drink lots of water - a study presented at the annual scientific meeting of 2006 of the American College of Rheumatology found a link between dehydration due to hot and humid weather and gout attacks.
